Job Vacancy: AIG Teacher (Academically/Intellectually Gifted)
Location: Currituck County Schools (Currituck County Middle and Moyock Middle)
Reports To: Principal
Job Overview:
Currituck County Schools is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and dedicated teacher to join our team as an AIG (Academically and Intellectually Gifted) Teacher. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for working with students who show exceptional academic abilities, and the ability to design and deliver differentiated instruction that challenges and supports these students in their learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide differentiated instruction to gifted students in a pull-out (elective course) setting, ensuring they are appropriately challenged and engaged.
- Develop and implement differentiated education plans (DEPs) or that cater to the academic needs of each student.
- Assess students' academic abilities and growth regularly through various formative and summative assessments.
- Work closely with classroom teachers, administrators, and parents to support the educational development of gifted students.
- Organize and lead enrichment programs, activities, and special projects that foster the development of creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Stay current with best practices in gifted education, incorporating innovative teaching strategies, resources, and technologies.
- Provide professional development for staff in the area of gifted education to increase awareness and improve practices for identifying and serving gifted students.
- Participate in meetings and committees to promote and advance the district's AIG program.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education
- Valid North Carolina teaching license (or eligibility for licensure) in AIG Education or related field.
- Experience teaching gifted students in a classroom setting is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of the needs and characteristics of academically and intellectually gifted students.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to continuous professional growth and development.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience in developing and implementing differentiated curriculum for gifted students.
- Familiarity with the North Carolina AIG standards and best practices in gifted education.
- Certification in gifted education or related professional development.
