Job Summary: The Estimator is responsible for calculating the total costs associated with construction projects. This includes analyzing project plans, determining material and labor requirements, and sourcing cost estimates from suppliers and contractors to compile a comprehensive budget proposal for clients. The Estimator will collaborate with leadership to define business visions and goals, review project specifications, and prepare costing strategies.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with leadership to define and outline business visions and goals.
  • Review project specifications, plans, and requirements for project scope.
  • Review all project quantities and takeoffs for accuracy and gaps.
  • Prepare costing strategies based on historical performance and market values.
  • Submit descriptive proposals to clients for project requests.
  • Participate in preconstruction and construction planning.
  • Maintain pipeline and backlog data for analysis.
  • Review, negotiate, and finalize contracts with clients and subcontractors, minimizing risk when possible.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers.
  • Provide project summary handoffs to the Construction team.
  • Collaborate with the Operations team on scope talent and upsell opportunities.
  • Review project documents for value-add scope gap opportunities.
  • Provide communication and solutions to leadership when questions, concerns, or issues arise.
  • Participate in personal and professional development opportunities.
  • Review plans, specifications, and scope of work.
  • Perform quantitative take-offs, generate estimates, and craft proposal letters.
  • Review estimates and proposals of other estimators.
  • Maintain bid calendar and bid performance matrix.
  • Contribute to the development of the company business plan as it relates to Estimating and Business Development.
  • Engage with customers and participate in business development activities.
  • Facilitate and lead weekly Preconstruction Coordination Meetings.
  • Follow up on proposals and bids through Letters of Intent (LOI) until contract execution.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Conduct project post-mortems.
  • Serve as a member of the Commercial Leadership Committee.
  • Download all bid documents and save them to file folders.
  • Request material quotes from vendors and suppliers and review them for accuracy.
  • Complete take-offs with accuracy in quantities and assembly components.
  • Be aware of client scope documents and bid forms, and complete bid forms to the client’s satisfaction.
  • Enter values in estimating spreadsheets and adjust labor based on conditions and circumstances.
  • Author project proposals, complete with scope lists and exceptions/clarifications.
  • Conduct project hand-off meetings with Operations.
  • Perform follow-up calls with clients on previous proposals.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of five years as a commercial estimator.
  • Experience in self-performance estimating and production rates.
  • Proficiency in computer software, including Excel, Word, and OnScreen.
  • Ability for conceptual estimating and design-build is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and numeracy skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
