Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Purchasing Manager to manage the procurement of food products for our distribution company. This role is responsible for sourcing high-quality products, negotiating with suppliers, maintaining optimal inventory levels, and ensuring competitive pricing. The ideal candidate has experience in food purchasing, strong vendor management skills, and the ability to forecast demand while maintaining cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procurement & Vendor Management:
- Source, evaluate, and establish relationships with suppliers to secure quality products at competitive prices.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with vendors to optimize cost savings.
- Monitor supplier performance to ensure product quality, delivery timelines, and compliance with company standards.
- Inventory & Supply Chain Management:
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels based on sales forecasts and customer demand.
- Work closely with warehouse and sales teams to manage stock levels and minimize waste.
- Address supply chain disruptions by developing contingency plans and alternative sourcing strategies.
- Cost & Pricing Management:
- Analyze market trends, commodity pricing, and vendor quotes to make cost-effective purchasing decisions.
- Collaborate with sales and finance teams to determine pricing strategies that align with profitability goals.
- Ensure product margins meet financial targets while maintaining competitive pricing for customers.
- Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Ensure all purchased products meet industry regulations, food safety standards, and company specifications.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, supplier certifications, and evolving food safety laws.
- Data Analysis & Reporting:
- Track and analyze purchasing data, vendor performance, and cost trends.
- Provide regular reports on purchasing activities, inventory turnover, and cost-saving initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills:
- 3 years of experience in food purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Knowledge of food distribution operations, inventory management, and logistics.
- Ability to analyze data and market trends to make informed purchasing decisions.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and ERP or purchasing software.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (preferred).
