Job Description
CV Inc. is currently seeking applicants interested in a Survey Crew Chief position at our Baltimore office. The Survey Crew Chief will supervise the activities and mentor a survey field team. Work may be part of a team or solo. Work will involve various tasks: boundary, right-of-way, easement, topographic, construction, subsurface utility locations, as-built, global positioning system (GPS), and geographic information system (GIS) mapping support work. This position will be exposed to various climatic and terrain conditions. Work is performed under the supervision of an office manager who assigns and inspects work to ensure that it is conducted in accordance with client requirements and with accepted surveying standards.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Supervises a survey field crew with surveying activities.
- Trains and mentoring the team
- Client and public relations
- Mathematical computations
- Oversees team safety, efficiency and cost
- Manages completion of tasks in a timely manner
- Operates Trimble Robotic Total Station
- Operate Trimble Data Collectors
- Operates GPS survey equipment
- Perform Differential Levels
- Operate Lidar Scanner
- Operate a magnetic detector and use hand tools.
- Carries surveying equipment, tools, and other supplies to and from the survey vehicle and survey site.
- Inspects and maintains surveying instruments to keep them in good condition and working order.
- Perform inventory of supplies in work vehicle.
- Keep detailed field notes, sketches, records, and reports.
- Clears line of sight through vegetation using machetes, hand saws, and other cutting tools.
- Locate and document property corners and survey control points.
- Assists with the setup of work zone signs and other work zone controls.
- Operates a survey vehicle
- Records survey data in field book and data collector, checks survey notes for accuracy.
Qualifications
- High School / GED
- 3 years’ experience with Land Surveying procedures and an ability to operate surveying instruments
- A valid driver's license
- Ability to work outdoors
- Must be available for occasional overnight travel as needed for out-of-town work. This could include a full 5-day work week or less.
- An ability to adhere to safety procedures and requirements.
- The ability to work with and mentor a team
- Able to work solo with robotic total station and/or GPS equipment
- Must be able to lift and carry survey equipment over rough & steep terrains
- Ability to remain standing or walking during the workday
- Willingness to work occasional flexible hours and overtime
- Ability to obtain security and safety certifications
- Must be able to pass drug screening and background checks
- Positive attitude and professionalism
- MDOT-SHA experience a plus
- CST certification a plus
- Confined Space Training a plus
