The Housing Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting individuals and families in securing stable housing. The Housing Specialist will work closely with various stakeholders, including clients, landlords, and community organizations, to ensure compliance with housing regulations and promote access to affordable housing options.
Duties
- Conduct assessments of clients' housing needs and develop individualized plans to address those needs.
- Provide guidance on navigating housing applications, including Section 8 and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) programs.
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to empower clients in their housing search and decision-making processes.
- Negotiate with landlords on behalf of clients to secure suitable housing options.
- Ensure compliance with Fair Housing regulations and educate clients about their rights.
- Implement crisis intervention strategies to assist clients facing immediate housing challenges.
- Maintain accurate records using Yardi or similar property management software.
- Collaborate with social service agencies and community organizations to connect clients with additional resources.
- Monitor client progress and provide ongoing support throughout the housing process.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work or a related field is preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Strong understanding of Fair Housing regulations, Section 8, and LIHTC programs.
- Experience in crisis management and intervention techniques.
- Proficiency in motivational interviewing methods to effectively engage clients.
- Familiarity with Yardi or similar property management systems is a plus.
- Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to advocate for client needs effectively.
- Knowledge of legal aspects related to housing assistance and tenant rights is desirable.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
