Job Summary :
Responsible for various internal and external communications activities, both strategic and tactical, conceptual and deliverable. Attains measurable results and continuously improve. Developing professional expertise in tackling projects and problems of modest to moderate magnitude and complexity. Receives detailed instructions on new projects or assignments, is continually supervised, and follows established directions. Work is reviewed and is in progress for accuracy, quality, and appropriateness. Must be receptive to coaching, education, and constructive criticism. Typically requires at least two years of related experience.
Duties & Responsibilities :
Provide technical editing services to subject matter experts, managers, and leaders.
Edit existing technical material and assist in document preparation.
Evaluate technical documents to determine the needed level and depth of editing based on multiple factors, including length, complexity, structure, and deadline.
Perform a variety of levels of editing, ranging from basic copy to substantive editing, on highly specialized technical documents.
Develop and provide training materials.
Track and shepherd documents through the review process.
Work on multiple, sometimes conflicting, deliverables and deadlines in a high-pressure environment where priorities frequently shift.
Maintain professional and courteous interactions with team members, technical personnel inside and outside the assigned organization, and various internal and external managers in the Laboratory.
Skills & Work Experience :
Thorough knowledge of English grammar and punctuation.
Extensive experience in technical editing and writing.
Demonstrated expertise in evaluating technical documents and performing various levels of edit.
Ability to learn and comprehend new technical concepts and terminology.
Excellent written and oral communication, problem-solving, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
Solid project management skills.
Ability to work effectively within a team and with various technical personnel and managers.
Medium to advanced proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
Solid understanding of Word styles and templates and PowerPoint-specific formatting.
Preferred Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in communications, English, or a related field.
Minimum of two (2) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience working with highly technical documents and procedures.
Experience working in a large, complex institution or company.
Experience working on large, multi-agency technical programs.
Experience in handling sensitive and classified documents and communications.
Ability to obtain a Q clearance.
