Windows System Administrator - Hybrid

Job Description:

As a System Administrator, you will be the expert in Windows server administration, ensuring the availability of products for application teams and end users. Your role will involve evaluating, preparing, and recommending technical solutions, as well as troubleshooting complex problems across various applications. You will collaborate with Technical Architecture Specialists, System Specialists, Programmers, and vendors to optimize product use and support migration to new product versions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Function as the Technical SME on an enterprise-wide system.
• Implement products/services with significant Commonwealth and federal oversight.
• Provide technical expertise for executive applications involving national security.
• Support and design industry-specific applications requiring integration with statewide systems.
• Interact with executive-level business users and technical experts.
• Teach and convey technical and functional concepts effectively.
• Develop work programs and schedules for tasks and assignments.
• Identify improvements to project standards for high-quality services/products.
• Contribute as an expert or actual designer.
• Provide accurate estimates for design and programming efforts for system changes and enhancements.
• Ensure technical architecture supports all product enhancement requirements.
• Track and resolve issues and risks affecting own work and the Application Team.
• Develop contingency plans as needed.
• Apply expertise to ensure products meet customer objectives.
• Anticipate and resolve team-specific issues.
• Determine time estimates and schedules for own work and resolve issues promptly.
• Perform server sizing, configuration, bandwidth analysis, and capacity planning.
• Monitor and install server hardware updates/upgrades (SCCM/SCOM).
• Provide superior interpersonal and customer service, working effectively in a team environment.
• Identify and track issues, risks, and action items.
• Participate in product design reviews to ensure design meets quality and technical requirements.
• Perform impact analyses on production fixes and enhancements to establish priorities.
• Provide basic product support and accurate, timely responses to detailed product questions.
• Offer effective on-site product support as needed.
• Accurately set severity levels for identified defects.
• Contribute to training and documentation materials regarding technical and functional design changes.
• Document all work for future reference.
• Review system test approaches and conditions for detailed test scenarios.
• Follow quality standards.
• Communicate accurate and useful status updates.
• Work effectively in a team environment.
• Complete assigned tasks with strong written and spoken communication skills.
  
  

Required Skills, Experiences, Education and Competencies:

• MS Windows Server experience in a large organization setting - Required 5 years of experience.
• Microsoft IIS configuration and support - Required 5 years of experience.
• HTTP Server/Apache support - Required 5 years of experience.
• Knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux - Nice to have 2 years’ experience.
• Knowledge of Active Directory - Nice to have 5 years.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP networking - Nice to have 5 years.
• PowerShell - Nice to have 5 years.
• Windows Troubleshooting - Nice to have 5 years.
• VMware experience - Nice to have 5 years.
  
  

The hourly range for roles of this nature are $40.00 to $60.00/hr. Rates are heavily dependent on skills, experience, location, and industry.
