About the Role
- You will work closely with healthcare professionals to collect blood samples from patients, ensuring that all necessary precautions are taken to maintain specimen integrity.
- Using your expertise in venipuncture techniques, you will collect blood samples using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Your attention to detail will be crucial in matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order.
Responsibilities
- Collect and process blood samples according to established procedures.
- Properly label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
- Pack specimens for transport, adhering to temperature and handling requirements.
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations, attending annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Qualifications
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed (required in some states).
- A minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
