With community residents leading the way, the mission of Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) is to build a strong, sustainable Cypress Hills/East New York, where youth and adults achieve educational and economic success, secure healthy and affordable housing, and develop leadership skills to transform their lives and community.
CHLDC has an opening for one (1) full-time College Access Counselor at our Jefferson Campus within our College Success Division.
Principal Duties:

Provide college application support and group workshops around college access, career exploration, and educational success

Implement comprehensive outreach and recruitment strategy to promote the programming of the SSC

Help coordinate activities including parent information sessions, virtual college visits, leadership activities and program celebrations

Work alongside a group of youth leaders high school students who serve as peer mentors supporting their classmates through the college application process

Responsible for college and career readiness workshop development and implementation
-
Communicate with key stakeholders at the Thomas Jefferson Campus and related agencies to support student progress toward educational success

Act as a liaison between students and school personnel

Meet 1:1 with students, in-person - and virtually as needed, to ensure timely completion of various applications

Implement comprehensive outreach and recruitment strategy to promote the programming of the SSC

Ensure the maintenance and growth of the SSC through supporting fundraising activities and tracking SSC student utilization and outcomes

Work with school guidance teams to track student data and progress
-
Share aggregate of student touchpoints through weekly/monthly updates to school staff and leadership.

Collaborate with CHLDC and school staff to meet needs of participants and provide crisis intervention and referrals as needed.

Participate in meetings and staff development sessions with CHLDC.

Demonstrates commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
-
BA in education, counseling or related field.
-
2-3 years experience strongly preferred.

Bilingual Spanish speaker (preferred)
-
Strong knowledge of CUNY and SUNY application process; FAFSA/TAP application process, and familiarity with applying to competitive private colleges and universities

Must have flexible schedule, some evening/weekend hours may be required

Strong interpersonal skills, highly organized and motivated

Commitment to youth development perspective

Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred

Must clear DOE and DOH fingerprinting and background authorizations before starting employment
Work Environment:
-
This position works in a school setting during the workday. This role routinely uses standard equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and standard equipment such as staplers, scissors and tape dispensers.
Supervision:
-
Reports directly to the Director of the Student Success Center.
Compensation:
-
$51,000 Salary/year.
