Schedule: M-F

Travel 40%

Summary:

This position at Cypress Rail Solutions (CRS) is responsible for assisting in the overall operational performance of all railcar repair operations. This position will be accountable for leading and overseeing railcar repair activities along with direct contact with a wide internal and external customer base while ensuring a positive financial return on railcar operations. In addition to the financial responsibility, this position will ensure safety, adherence to regulatory and AAR standards, quality, and environmental responsibilities. This position will assist in the development of staff and implementation of structured car repair mechanic training programs, identifying high potential employees for succession planning, and motivate site personnel to achieve all strategic business objectives.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities are, but are not limited to:

  • Leads by example and conducts activities with the core values of the company. Contributing to a positive environment for communication, empowerment, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensures that the facilities meet and operate within all applicable local, state, and federal regulations in safety, environmental, labor and transportation.
  • Ensures all car facilities meet and maintain applicable AAR Certifications and car repairs are performed to AAR and FRA standards and regulations.
  • Ensures all FRA audit car defects are repaired, and follow-up reports submitted in timely manner.
  • Assists in maintaining staffing levels that meet operational needs, develops, and motivates site personnel ensuring that operations are performed efficiently and maximize growth opportunities to produce high performing teams.
  • Assists in maintaining an adequate quantity of all necessary material, parts and supplies required to operate the repair facilities in productive, safe, and cost-effective means.
  • Promotes safety initiatives and adheres to all railcar repair safety procedures.
  • Maintains an adequate quantity of all necessary material and supplies required to operate the repair facility in keeping with safety, quality, productivity, cost, and economic earnings.
  • Plans facility resources to meet car repair programs and projects.
  • Responsible for managing all financial aspects of repair operations to ensure profitability results meet or exceed strategic business objectives.
  • Promote the repair facility within the communities through involvement and support of projects that enhance the living standards of the respective communities.
  • Interacts with customers to ensure satisfaction, manage customer expectations, and set agreed upon production goals.
  • Overseas all aspects of personnel including hiring, recognition, goal setting, coaching, development, performance improvement, and termination.
  • Assists in creating facility annual budgets, with weekly tracking performance measures vs budget expectations.
  • Ensures an operational environment that promotes respect, communication, and employee development.
  • Asset and P&L Management: Manage fixed assets, control operating costs, and increase revenues.
  • Attends training, in-service, conferences, and meetings as necessary to understand current car repair standards and regulations.

  • Possess a valid Driver’s License


Physical Demands
:

  • Occasionally: Be able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time. Be able to lift and carry up to 25-40 lbs., standing on railcar equipment, reaching & climbing.


Environmental:

  • Be able to work in all types of weather.


Education and Training:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Post-secondary education preferred.
  • 10 years’ experience in the rail industry required; 5 years in Mechanical Car preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in AAR car repair standards and certifications, FRA/TC regulations.
  • Derailment restoration & cause finding experience/training.
  • Supervisory experience managing in medium to large operations.
  • Lean or Six Sigma Certification a plus.
  • Computer literate and strong business acumen.
  • Valid passport.
  • Must have and maintain an insurable driving status which includes but is not limited to CRS driver provisions.
