Summary
Landscape or maintain grounds of property using hand or power tools or equipment. Workers typically perform a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following : sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, sprinkler installation, fence installation and repair.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Operate vehicles and powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, snow blowers, chain saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning saws.
- Mow or edge lawns, using power mowers or edger's.
- Shovel snow from walks, driveways, or parking lots and spread salt in those areas.
- Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls.
- Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes.
- Prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws.
- Gather and remove litter.
- Maintain or repair tools, equipment, or structures, such as buildings, greenhouses, fences, or benches, using hand or power tools.
- Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, burial sites, or other grounds features.
- Maintain irrigation systems, including winterizing the systems and starting them up in spring.
- Use irrigation methods to adjust the amount of water consumption and to prevent waste.
- Haul or spread topsoil or spread straw over seeded soil to hold soil in place.
- Advise customers on plant selection or care.
- Plan or cultivate lawns or gardens.
- Attach wires from planted trees to support stakes.
- Install rock gardens, ponds, decks, drainage systems, irrigation systems, retaining walls, fences, planters.
If applying for a lead position, all of the above the ability to plan schedule and perform landscape maintenance and installs. Driver's license required.
QUALIFICATIONS -The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.
Education and / or Experience : 1 years landscape experience preferred. Driver's license preferred. Experience using motorized machines and tools used in landscaping. Ability to work quickly and efficiently. Requires a great deal of discipline and stamina as well as the ability to work well on a team. Good attention to detail and constant alertness are necessary for safety reasons and to avoid careless mistakes. Work is physical and requires constant exposure to the elements, including extreme heat. Requires exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, confining workspace, electrical hazards, chemicals, dust, and mechanical hazards
Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk and sit. This position may be very active and may require standing and walking for the duration of a shift, sitting and driving, lifting, pushing, digging, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, using hands to fingers, touching and holding, and reaching with hands and arms; regularly required to speak and hear. The employee must frequently lift and / or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.
