JOB SUMMARY:
The Weld/Fabrication Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the welding/fabrication department, ensuring the efficient and safe production of high-quality welded products. The Weld/Fabrication Shop Supervisor requires leadership skills to manage a team of welders, maintains production schedules, ensures adherence to safety protocols, and ensures the consistent quality of all welding work. The Weld/Fabrication Shop Supervisor will also be responsible for managing workflow, organizing resources, and coordinating efforts to meet production goals in a timely and cost-effective manner. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring both technical welding expertise and management capabilities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains Weld/Fabrication Department staff.
- Oversees the daily workflow of the Weld/Fabrication Department.
- Conducts timely performance appraisals, sets annual goals and objectives, completes regular feedback sessions, and reviews training and development needs for direct reports.
- Handles discipline and termination of Weld/Fabrication Department Staff in accordance with company policy.
- Coaches, supports, and develops Weld/Fabrication Department staff to instill personal accountability, teamwork, and a drive to results while demonstrating and modeling the core values of D&G.
- Ensures all Weld/Fabrication Department Staff are knowledgeable of and comply with all company and regulatory policies, practices, and standards wherever they conduct company business.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises and manages a team of welders and fabrication personnel, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to ensure optimal productivity and quality.
- Schedules and allocates work assignments, ensuring that production deadlines are met, and resources are effectively utilized.
- Maintains and enforces all safety standards and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all weld/fabrication shop personnel.
- Conducts inspections of completed welding work to ensure compliance with quality standards, specifications, and industry regulations.
- Provides training and development to weld/fabrication shop staff on new techniques, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Manages equipment maintenance, ensuring that welding equipment is in good working order and performing regular inspections to avoid downtime.
- Troubleshoots and resolves welding-related technical issues that arise during production.
- Develops and implements procedures to improve workflow, reduce waste, and increase overall operational efficiency.
- Collaborates with engineering and production teams to review project specifications, provide input on welding techniques, and ensure effective communication throughout the production process.
- Maintains accurate records of work performed, including tracking production metrics, safety compliance, and quality control data.
- Oversees the inventory and ordering of welding/fabrication supplies and materials, ensuring sufficient stock is available to meet production demands.
- Monitors and ensures compliance with all environmental and regulatory requirements pertaining to the welding process.
- Leads by example, fostering a positive, collaborative, and productive work environment.
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications in welding or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in welding, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Extensive knowledge of welding techniques, equipment, and materials (MIG, TIG, Stick, and other common welding processes).
- Strong understanding of welding codes, safety standards, and quality control practices.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical welding issues.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding specifications.
- Proficiency in using welding tools and equipment, including grinders, torches, and welding machines.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Knowledge of inventory management and supply ordering.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and standing for extended minimum requirements
- Must pass a post-employment offer drug screen and background check.
