What are the responsibilities and job description for the Purchasing position at D+M Metal Products?
This position is responsible for the purchasing and monitoring of daily requirements for materials and supplies, maintaining physical inventories, negotiations with suppliers to receive the best price and coordinating these activities with manufacturing personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Purchase and maintain appropriate inventory levels of materials to meet production requirements on a timely basis. These would include: Raw Materials, Hardware, Shop Supplies, Gases, Packaging, Distilled Water, and Coolants.
- Determine Economic Order Quantity for materials to be purchased.
- Monitor accuracy of inventory on the floor. Periodically verify.
- Initiate changes to system for increasing a higher level of accuracy in floor inventory.
- Monitor Open Pick Buy Report.
- Source for best price and still meet customer requirements.
- Preparing purchase orders based on material requirements on work orders and requisitions from plant.
- Processing change orders, notifying vendors of material and quantity requirement revisions.
- Follow-up orders to expedite deliveries.
- Verifies invoices to original orders to ascertain compliance with all conditions of purchase prior to payment.
- Maintaining of purchase orders and related purchasing records.
- Ongoing monitoring of material and supply inventory.
- Maintaining prices and cost of materials and supplies using company computer system.
- Receive and document incoming materials and verify quality and quantities.
REQUIRED ABILITIES:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others and function as a team member
- Strong mathematical and computer skills
- Good analytical ability.
- Blueprint reading.
- Ability to make purchasing recommendations and objective and impartial decisions.
- Knowledge of distribution methods and procedures such as rates, routing, expediting, and claim filing for contract and common carriers
- Two to three years experience in a manufacturing environment
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Office position with time spent daily in the manufacturing area.
