Job Summary
Position Summary
Plans numerical control program to control contour-path machining of parts on automatic machine tools. Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines include, but are not limited to, machining tools such as lathes, multi-axis spindles, and milling machines, but the functions formerly performed by human operators are performed by a computer-control module. Applies knowledge of the working properties of materials with CNC programming knowledge to design and carry out the operations needed to make machined products that meet precise specifications. Analyzes drawings, sketches, and design data of part to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates, according to knowledge of machine shop processes, part specifications, and machine capabilities. Determines reference points and direction of machine cutting paths. Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlines sequence of operations required to machine part. Writes work instruction sheets and cutter lists to guide setup and operation of machine. Writes program of machine instructions to regulate movement of machine along cutting path. Revises current programs to eliminate errors or omissions. Observes operation of machine on trial run to prove programmed instructions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate and completely understand all machine controls and functions
- Maintains knowledge of all tooling and fixtures used in CNC machining
- Use extreme caution and observe all safe machining practices on 1st piece production parts to ensure clearance of tooling and machine parts.
- Obtain First Article approval through the quality process
- Instruct and train operators on process, inspections, required gauging, and tooling needed to maintain quality products and keep production on schedule.
- Monitor cycle times and tooling and work with management to strive for continuous improvement.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements
- Have full understanding of company data collection software use
- Handle all gauging, inspection equipment, and hand tools with proper care and have full understanding of their use.
- Responsible for all in process quality checks and other job related paperwork
- Responsible for machine adjustments to ensure products are manufactured to required specs.
- Periodic inspection and replacement of tooling
- Ensure proper labeling and identification of finished and raw product.
- Maintain a clean work area at all times.
- Meet or exceed estimated production rate (parts produced per hour).
Education/Qualification Requirements
- Previous experience as a machinist / machine setter / operator or tender.
- Certificate of completion from apprenticeship programs, on the job training, or training in secondary, vocational, or technical college.
- Knowledge of computers and electronics, computer numerical control, basics of programming, and computer-aided manufacturing.

Machine Shop Facility that requires safety glasses and must follow all safety rules as specified by management.

Hours: 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday with a paid lunch.
*Employment contingent on passing hair follicle drug test.
