POSITION SUMMARY :
The purpose of this position is to assist in the design and development of new commercial thermoformed food packaging tooling, as well as to help improve and analyze existing tooling by working closely with Corporate Engineering and Manufacturing. This individual will report to the Tool Design Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Safety

- Reports unsafe conditions or hazards and uses the proper PPE for any work being performed.
Task
Assist in the design of new thermoforming, injection, and foil tooling to meet D&W Fine Pack standardsAssist in the design of replacement and insert thermoforming, injection, and foil tooling to meet D&W Fine Pack standardsWork with the tooling department to continuously improve current molds to meet new design standards established by the Tool Engineering departmentDetail and file prints as required by Tool Designer II, III and Tool Design ManagerResponsible for creation and maintenance of all tooling Bill of MaterialsGenerate documentation with quality inspection information with critical dimensionsUpdate and maintain the tooling standards bookParticipate in tool inspection process at tool vendor before shipment of new production toolAssisting plants where required on tooling and machine repairsAssist in CNC programming for internal CNC shop as neededAssist in procurement of details required for fabrication and build of tooling including raw materials, cutters, and purchased details used for assemblyHelp with inspection of internal tool buildsAssist in tool room as required i.e. machining, polishing, vacuum drilling, and assembly as requiredAssist in set-up and tracking of TRP and CER projects in JobBoss and master project listGeneral & Administrative
Maintain a safe work environmentTrack tool design time by projectProvides general engineering assistance when necessaryPerform tasks as assigned by Tool Design Manager and other managers as directedAssist in the start-up of new production tooling as required
QUALIFICATIONS :

EXPERIENCE :
AS Engineering (Mechanical or Plastics preferred); or experience and / or training equivalent with education1 years of experience with specific background working in thermoforming product and tool engineering3 years relevant CAD experiences (Solid Works and DraftSight preferred) Mastercam programming knowledge a plus1 years of experience in hands-on machine shop operations; CNC set-up experience preferredKnowledge of plastic material processes and materialsExperience in problem solving involving product design and tooling design / debugSkilled in management of large and small projectsExcellent computer and communication (verbal and written) skillsWork Environment :
While performing the duties of this position, the employee’s work is performed in a typical interior / office work environment. The employee is expected to maintain an organized work area and contribute to the overall decorum of a professional setting. A minimal amount of work will require exposure to the manufacturing facility. The employee is expected to be familiar with and compliant with all plant safety and cleanliness (GMP) regulations. Workdays are generally Monday through Friday; however, the employee is expected to work additional, including weekend, hours as required to fulfill job duties.
