Job Summary
The Virtualization Systems Engineer will be responsible for planning, designing, implementing, and maintaining information systems based on Microsoft, Cisco UCS, and other vendor technologies. The role will involve extensive collaboration with IT teams to deliver comprehensive IT services. The successful candidate will work on complex projects requiring specialized knowledge and expertise in virtualization technologies to support business needs.
Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Design and Maintenance: Plan, design, implement, and maintain large-scale physical and virtual infrastructures, including future technologies in virtual environments.
- VMware Support: Provide support for VMware, specifically ESX vSphere 6,7, by monitoring cluster performance, optimizing server environments, and diagnosing and resolving production issues across three Data Centers with over 1,000 servers.
- VM Migration: Perform ESX host and virtual machine migrations across development, integration, and production environments, as well as between Data Centers.
- VM Creation and Design: Create and deploy VMs in the VMware environment from scratch, designing VMware clusters for business-critical applications.
- vMotion and Storage vMotion: Execute live migration of virtual machines using vMotion and Storage vMotion.
- IT Governance: Understand and execute the role within a framework of IT governance and Enterprise Architecture standards.
- Performance Metrics: Conduct performance metrics and provide workload status updates.
- Troubleshooting: Address and resolve issues related to ESX hosts within VMware environments.
- Team Collaboration: Act as a resource for less experienced staff, offering direction, training, and guidance.
- Policy Development: Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, standards, and methodologies for IT solutions.
- Business and IT Alignment: Understand and communicate how the assigned architecture area relates to business activities and assess the impact of tactical and long-term business and IT activities.
- Cisco UCS Management
- UCS Intersight Administration: Manage Cisco UCS Intersight, including configuring Fabric Interconnects, creating server profiles, managing firmware upgrades, and monitoring system health.
- Fabric Interconnect Management: Configure network settings, VLANs, VSANs, and port profiles.
- Server Profile Creation: Design and deploy server profiles, defining network settings, boot options, and storage configurations.
- Policy Management: Create and enforce policies across the UCS domain to ensure consistent configuration and compliance.
- Troubleshooting: Resolve issues related to server configuration, network connectivity, and storage.
- Requirements
- Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 5-7 years of technical experience with installation, upgrades, and maintenance of server and network support systems preferred.
- Experience troubleshooting DRS cluster errors, shares, pools, and limits.
- Experience configuring distributed and standard switches.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Microsoft Technologies: Expertise in Microsoft server, desktop, and mobile device technologies (e.g., Windows Server, Windows Desktop, Windows Mobile, MS Office), messaging technologies (e.g., MS Exchange), and infrastructure hardware (e.g., servers, SAN, switches).
- Security Technologies: Deep understanding of related security technologies.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and work with various personnel, including physicians, patients, customers, and the general public.
- Collaboration: Flexible, with strong personal integrity and the ability to work as part of a team.
- System and Automation Expertise: Progressive experience conceptualizing, building, and deploying systems and automation technologies for a large body of Windows servers and PCs.
