Overview
Leads and manages a team of controls engineers that design, develop, and implement material handling systems. Supports the Corporate Executive team by providing technical information, guidance, and product knowledge while performing related work as required.
Responsibilities
- Design complex control systems for material handling applications

- Includes Electrical and Power systems design utilizing AutoCAD
- Includes Programming utilizing PLC’s and other control components
- Understand the scope of the project and schedule resources accordingly based on engineering experience
- Manages a team of engineers, including recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures.
- Manages controls team, ensuring successful completion of all projects
- Manages electrical engineering operational objectives by designing and planning for projects based on electrical engineering information and specifications.
- Make recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing, completing and implementing changes to the designs when required.
- Reviews customer specifications and scope documentation for quotation and clarification.
- Performs regular process checks and reviews of the output of the engineering team.
- Resolves escalated technical problems; works directly with customers, including leadership, to address issues and improve satisfaction.
- Domestic travel up to 40% in North America, mostly within the Continental United States.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements
- Combination of training and experience providing required knowledge, skills and abilities, such as Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering or a related engineering field with minimum of 5 years of increasingly responsible experience in professional engineering design and project execution experience, including minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the material handling industry
- Experience managing complex projects and resources
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements
- Strong knowledge of industrial automation
- Proficient with AutoCAD
- Strong leadership skills with ability to lead, manage, coach, and train all levels of team members
- Ability to lead a team and accomplish project goals effectively
- Ability to deal with conflicts and employee issues in professional manner
