The Indiana University Student Health Center is part of The Office of Student Life and provides comprehensive on-campus facilities dedicated to supporting student well-being. It offers health promotion programs, a full-service medical clinic, counseling and psychological services (CAPS), and a pharmacy, all tailored to meet the unique needs of IU Bloomington students. With a focus on student-centered care, the Health Center strives to enhance the student experience and promote success through accessible, high-quality services.

The Health Promotion Director oversees comprehensive health promotion programs, services, and initiatives to cultivate a culture of well-being for the Indiana University Bloomington community. The Director leads prevention strategies, manages departmental operations, and provides supervision for a dedicated team of professional and student staff to ensure the successful implementation of health promotion programs, resources, and interventions. This position reports directly to the Associate Vice Provost for Health and Well-Being.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership for the health promotion team, establishing goals, policies, and procedures to align with institutional priorities.
  • Supervises professional staff, supporting their development and evaluating performance.
  • Ensures compliance with relevant policies, laws, and regulations related to health promotion.
  • Manages departmental budgets and seeks funding opportunities to advance health promotion initiatives.
  • Leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive, evidence-based health promotion strategy aligned with the Office of Student Life strategic plan and the IUB 2030 Plan.
  • Oversees the planning and evaluation of programs and services that address campus health and well-being priorities.
  • Builds coalitions and partnerships with campus and community stakeholders to support a multidisciplinary approach to health promotion.
  • Collaborates with student organizations, faculty, and staff to integrate health promotion initiatives across the campus.
  • Supervises campus-wide assessments to identify health priorities and inform strategic planning.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the health promotion strategy within the department and uses data to inform improvement and adjustments.
  • Participates in special projects, committees, and initiatives related to student well-being and public health.

General Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and manages the work of staff, initiating personnel actions including but not limited to recruitment, hiring, training, evaluating, performance management, and corrective action.
  • Provides operational leadership for complex Health and Wellness design projects university-wide, developing plans, committing resources, establishing priorities, and ensuring progress to completion.
  • Consults with faculty and academic leadership to establish Health and Wellness strategies and ensure adherence to best practices on high-priority initiatives meeting university-wide goals and objectives.
  • Collaborates with other units and departments to ensure alignment on Health and Wellness initiatives and development and coordination of special projects.
  • Identifies emerging technologies and trends to implement processes, solutions, and best practices in the delivery of Health and Wellness goals.
  • Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

    EDUCATION

    Required

    Bachelor's degree, preferably in public health or a related field.

    Preferred

    Master's degree in public health, health promotion, health education, higher education, or a related field.

    WORK EXPERIENCE

    Required

    4 years of related experience.

    1 year of management experience.

    Preferred

    7 years of progressive responsibility in health promotion or a related field.

    2 years of experience in higher education.

    LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

    Preferred

    Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) from the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC).

    Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

    Working Conditions

    This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. It involves both sedentary work and periods of movement around an office environment and the campus. The person in this position must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
