SILive.com / Staten Island Advance is seeking a sports-savvy Reporter with sound writing and digital skills to generate engaging and dynamic high school and youth sports content. The right candidate is a motivated professional who is committed to excellent community journalism, as well as building online audiences and applying digital tactics to their reporting.
In this role, the Reporter will cover a range of high school and youth sports and topics, including the games, rivalries, and personalities that make up the Staten Island sports landscape. Reporters will use the written word, digital platforms, and social media to build an audience.
You will be part of an award-winning content team in a company committed to unrivaled local journalism that strengthens and empowers the Staten Island Community.
Candidates should be organized, competitive, and detail-oriented with a terrific work ethic. After training, candidates should be able to track and understand key metrics to ensure our content is performing as expected. Candidates must also be flexible and be willing to experiment as we seek to attract readers and convert them to subscribers.
This job requires reliable transportation to meet with sources or cover events.
The base salary range is $50,000 - $55,000 per year.
Our ideal candidate will have the following :
- 1-3 years' experience reporting, writing, producing, and packaging digital content in a fast-paced, competitive environment
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, or a combination of equivalent education and experience
- Strong reporting and writing ability
- Demonstrated ability with producing and editing multimedia
- Search engine optimization skills, and an understanding of existent and emerging social media platforms
- Ability to work a flexible schedule - weekends and evenings are a must
- Knowledge of Staten Island and its sports landscape is a plus
