Dairy One Cooperative is seeking a Dairy Herd Improvement (DHI) Technician to add to our growing team. The DHI Technician is responsible for sampling milk from individual cows that will provide critical data to help farms make decisions and achieve their goals (production & profit). The DHI Tech plays a significant role in providing the cooperative ownership with timely, accurate, and meaningful data. This position works on-site at various dairy operations.
This territory covers the Finger Lakes Region, and you may live anywhere within reasonable driving distance of the Cortland / Tully area. This role offers considerable autonomy, though evening and weekend work may be required to meet the demands of the position. No overnight travel required. Each farm is different in size (number of cows), parlor set up, milking schedule, services required and distance from your home. There is no such thing as a “typical day”, but your days will become predictable within your circuit and market.

If you are strong in agriculture, we are open to candidates from various backgrounds such as genetics, feed, cattle, herd health, or related farming experience. Job satisfaction should come from building relationships with farmers in your existing/assigned circuit as well as with new farms and from working for a company that really makes a difference in the dairy food production realm.
You will be expected to communicate regularly with your team leader(s) regarding scheduling, to be dependable and prompt, and to uphold Dairy One Values of Integrity, Professionalism, Commitment, Innovation, Positivity, and Safety.
We are seeking people who have a passion for (and experience in) farming and the physical capability to do the work required. In order to apply you MUST have a High School diploma, a good driving record, dependable transportation, and some dairy farm experience.
Essential Job Functions:
- Equipment usage: sanitizing, setup/cleanup, printing reports and invoicing
- Testing: record cow number, pour samples, monitor data for accuracy, sample delivery
- Communication: Invoicing, driving/on-site visits and consultations with farms, connecting with Dairy One team and management for assistance as needed
Qualifications
Salary : $5,000 - $5,500
