JOB PROFILE

 

As a Dairy Records Sample Technician, you will help your farms make decisions and achieve their goals (production & profit) by providing them with timely, accurate and meaningful data. You will be a member of a team of employees servicing large farms.  Duties include assisting with all test day activities including set up, sample collection, data entry, and clean up.

 

Being an effective and successful Dairy Records Sample Technician requires a passion for (and experience in) farming and the physical capability to do the work required. Dependability and a cooperative spirit are essential capabilities. You will be expected work a varying schedule including early mornings, nights and weekends, and to have dependable transportation.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Duties, Responsibilities &/or Accountabilities

Average range of time/% effort *

Set up of equipment

  • Sanitize equipment,
  • Set up meters,
  • prepare sample vials,
  • organize farm records

60 minutes

Test

  • Record cow numbers
  • Pour samples in vials

1-10 hours

Clean up

  • Break down meters,
  • Clean and sanitize equipment,

60 minutes

Communicating

  • Connecting with Team Leader, Manager and/or co-workers regarding scheduling or for assistance as needed,
  • Checking email/staying up do date on Company news

Ongoing, as needed and/or as time allows.

 

*Each farm is different in size (# cows), parlor set up, milking schedule, services required and distance from your home. There is no such thing as a “typical day”, but your days will be predictable within your circuit and market.

 

 

SCOPE/IMPACT

In this position you will work as part of a team of specialists. Your primary contact will be with your Senior Specialist and team members. You will have contact with farm owners, but will not be expected to advise, consult or make sales.

 

SKILLS

You will be expected to demonstrate or learn the following skills:

  • Communication – listening and speaking; initiating conversation.
  • Accuracy - entering consistent and accurate data through attention to detail.
  • Professionalism - demonstrate by dressing appropriately and avoiding foul language.
  • Organization - You will be responsible for setting your schedule, organizing your reports, and uploading invoices.
 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

High School Diploma and at least 1 year of dairy farm experience.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

The following is a summary of the physical demands

 

Mental & Visual Demands

  • The ability to read and interpret data
  • Regular use of a computer requiring moderate visual concentration

Physical Activities & Requirements

  • The ability to stand for long periods of time, go up/down stair
  • Repetitive use of shoulders and wrists

Environmental Conditions

  • Work is performed in a range of conditions including very slippery (ice, manure, water), frigid cold and extreme heat
