Position Overview :
Dameron Hospital is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented HIM Technician II to join our Health Information Management (HIM) team. The HIM Technician will play a vital role in the release of patient information, conducting audits for chart completion, and assisting with medical staff files and meeting preparations. This position requires strict adherence to patient privacy regulations, including HIPAA, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service while working with confidential health information. The HIM Technician will collaborate closely with the HIM Director and department members to support the daily operations of the HIM department.
Key Responsibilities :
- Release of Information :
Responsible for processing requests for patient medical records, ensuring compliance with patient authorization, hospital policies, and HIPAA regulations. Safeguard patient privacy and ensure that information is only shared with authorized individuals.
Perform concurrent and retrospective audits to ensure the completeness and accuracy of patient charts. Follow up with medical staff to ensure timely chart completion and documentation.
Assist the HIM Director in processing medical staff files and preparing materials for Medical Executive Committee (MEC) meetings. Ensure that all documentation is up-to-date and complete.
Maintain the highest level of confidentiality while handling personal health information (PHI). Ensure that all releases of information are compliant with patient requests, authorizations, and applicable regulations.
Engage with patients, medical staff, and external requestors in a professional and courteous manner. Provide appropriate levels of service while maintaining a positive image of the department and hospital.
Assist with daily HIM department tasks and help maintain a professional, organized office environment. Collaborate with the HIM team to ensure efficient department operations.
Accurately input and track data related to medical records, audits, and releases of information. Ensure that all records are organized, properly maintained, and easily retrievable.
Qualifications :High school diploma required; Associates degree in Health Information Management or a related field is preferred.
Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in a hospital or healthcare setting, with a focus on health information management or medical records.
Strong understanding of medical terminology and healthcare processes.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
