What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Literacy Program Coordinator (Two Positions) position at Danbury Public Schools?
Summary / Goal of Position : This position is primarily responsible for providing oversight and management of the Family Literacy Programs at Ellsworth Avenue and Park Avenue Elementary Schools.
Essential Tasks of the Position (Illustrative, not inclusive)
- Support family literacy instructors in four areas of instruction : ESL, parent and child together activities (PACT), childhood literacy education, and parent education;
- Coordinate and manage childcare staff;
- Coordinate meals for program participants;
- Act as first point of contact for program staff;
- Share communications between staff members of the program with the WERACE Director and Program Facilitator;
- Manage attendance records for participants;
- Collaborate with ESL Site Supervisor at both Ellsworth Avenue and Park Avenue locations to continually monitor cohort attendance and engage cohort members who struggle to attend sessions;
- Perform other tasks and responsibilities associated with Family Literacy Program and grant funding, as delegated by the WERACE Director

Training and Experience :
Reports to : Director of Adult Education Work Schedule : Programming will run February 3- April 3, 2025, for 16 sessions at both Ellsworth Elementary School and Park Avenue Elementary School, with programming running 5 : 00-8 : 30pm. Park Avenue site will meet Monday and Wednesday evenings, Ellsworth Avenue site will meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Coordinator is expected to be on site each night the program is in session from 5 : 00-8 : 30pm. Additionally, the coordinator is expected to attend planning meetings prior to the start of programming, held both virtually and in-person.
Compensation : This is a part-time, non-union position. Stipend for this position is $2,970 per location. Please note that preference will be given to applicants who are able to coordinate both locations.
