What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructor of Nursing position at Danville Community College?

This is a face-to-face position.
The Nursing Instructor has responsibility for teaching primarily in the classroom and laboratory settings and also in the clinical setting; incorporates evidence-based practice into teaching activities and maintains a commitment to serving Danville Community College. Academic advising and committee responsibilities are assigned to this position. The successful candidate should expect to be an active participant in expanding nursing education and assisting in developing allied health programming at the college.
Weekly Programming Needs:
Clinicals: 8 to 12 hours per week depending on the semester, with a minimum of 180 hours in the final two semesters.
Labs: 6 hours per day, currently running 3 lab sections for 2 classes, 12 hours per week.
Instruction: 2 to 4 hours per week of direct classroom instruction.
Administrative Duties: 8 hours per week, including grading, planning, and attending meetings.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
A Master’s degree in nursing or currently enrolled in an MSN program; a current unencumbered RN license in the Commonwealth of VA; at least two years of direct care experience as a Registered Nurse in a health care setting.

- Acute care clinical experience within the last five years.
- Ability to adjust to change, meet deadlines, and perform multiple tasks as needed.

- Ability to lift 50 pounds to transfer patients, manage medical devices, and demonstrate physical care procedures.
- Ability to use the hands and body repetitively for reaching, pushing, pulling, tasks involving medical equipment, demonstrating physical care procedures, typing, grading, documenting, etc.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during instruction and during clinicals and labs, in order to supervise students and assist patients.
- Ability to sit for extended periods to complete administrative duties, such as planning, meetings, etc.

- Master’s Degree in Nursing Education.
- Prior successful teaching experience, preferably in a community college setting.
- Supervision of students in clinical training.
