Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality instruction aligned to grade-level standards and individualized student needs.
- Develop and maintain a classroom environment that promotes respect, engagement, and a culture of learning.
- Implement instructional and behavioral strategies to support students returning from suspension or at risk of suspension.
- Collaborate with school counselors, behavior specialists, and other support staff to ensure wraparound services are in place.
- Establish clear expectations and consistent routines that promote accountability and student success.
- Monitor and document academic progress, behavior, and student goals; prepare reports and maintain student records.
- Supervise students in classroom, hallway, restroom, and transitions in a structured and positive manner.
- Build relationships with students and families to foster trust, motivation, and sustained engagement in school.
- Participate in professional development related to trauma-informed practices, social-emotional learning, and behavior management.
- Communicate regularly with families, school personnel, and community partners.
- Attend staff meetings, division trainings, and other assigned duties that support program goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students who have experienced behavioral challenges.
- Strong classroom management and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to develop and implement differentiated instruction to meet diverse academic needs.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed practices, restorative justice, and social-emotional learning is a plus.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Virginia teaching license or eligibility for licensure.
- Experience working with middle school students in alternative, special education, or high-needs settings preferred.
