The VP - Environmental, Health, and Safety is responsible for providing leadership and direction for the development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS systems, programs, and initiatives to drive innovative and prevention based EHS programs to ensure conformance with applicable EHS legal and other requirements and to minimize EHS legal risks and liabilities. This role will help set EHS strategy, manage strategic initiatives, and support internal business needs while driving operational improvement across EHS to strategically plan for and assist all Darigold's locations in compliance with all federal, state, and local H&S regulations. Act as primary liaison with external regulatory agencies.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Collaborate across the company to develop, implement, and manage Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs, policies, and procedures that support the business while ensuring compliance with established company and government regulations/policies.
  • Develop and drive continuous improvement initiatives that utilize a data and program-driven approach to injury prevention and strong EHS culture/best management practices.
  • Identifies gaps, prioritizes concerns, and develops action items that may impact capital planning.
  • Develop and assist in rollout strategies for adequate, appropriate, and effective safety, environmental, and regulatory training for associates.
  • Coordinate and track audits, assessments, and associated activities and corrective actions, to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as an internal leader and subject matter expert on EHS, monitoring emerging trends, programs, and issues, and communicating and educating others on relevant topics.
  • Prepare various EHS reports and disclosures, communications, and other reports as needed for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Organize and present EHS conferences, workshops, web-based training, and meeting with team members for sharing of EHS best practices, lessons learned, other success stories, and other EHS initiatives.
  • Monitor and represent EHS with 3rd party Workman's Compensation/Injury Management
  • Work with EHS, legal counsel, and operations teams to negotiate and resolve government agency notices of violation, claims, and penalties.
  • Primary contact for regulatory agencies such as OSHA for inspections, audits, permitting, and reporting.
  • Build organization capability by providing EHS training and development of EHS professionals to ensure each site within the region has the appropriate technical and functional
  • Collaborate with local leaders in the hiring, development, coaching, and mentoring of the H&S field team.
  • Drives a culture of Safety First through engagement with all levels at the site and the broader Organization.
  • Drives hazard identification, environmental aspect identification, and risk assessment programs to identify strategic risk improvement opportunities and gaps in health, safety, and environmental compliance obligations. Directs short-term planning actions to set targets and objectives for the site and drives actions to completion.
  • Providing subject matter expertise on complex issues, including but not limited to health, safety, and environmental compliance, capital and resource management, risk reduction, incident investigation, management of change, contractor safety, emergency preparedness and response, pollution prevention, and environmental sustainability.
  • Directs work cross-functionally as required to resolve work-related incidents, non-compliance, non-conformities, and corrective and preventive actions driving continual improvement within the site(s).

 

What You Bring:

 

  • 15 years relevant experience, with a minimum of 5 years of EHS management experience, including facility-level EHS technical work in a manufacturing operations environment and Corporate-level work as an EHS program leader.
  • Minimum of a four (4) year degree. Bachelor of Science in Occupational Health and /or Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental, Science, engineering, or relevant discipline preferred. Master’s degree preferred.

Travel

  • Willing and able to travel as needed, current estimates at 50%

  • Compensation range: $195,662-$293,493 (individual wage based on previous experience, knowledge, and skills)
