Position Purpose
The Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College is seeking a Hardware/Content Developer to work part time in the Online Master of Engineering (MEng) in Computer Engineering program. This person will work closely with the Dartmouth Engineering faculty and team to develop a custom evaluation board that students in the Capstone: Smart Sensors course of the Online MEng in Computer Engineering program will use in the final course of their program of study. The custom evaluation board will be designed as a printed circuit board that includes sensors, a microcontroller, battery power, and power management. In addition to developing this board, the Hardware/Content Developer will contribute to the creation of course content related to the hardware. There is an opportunity for this position to lead into a Teaching Assistant position in Fall 2025 when the course launches.

This position is expected to be approximately 10-15 hours per week.

Brief description of the MEng in Computer Engineering degree program: Intelligent systems are machines that interact with the world via a combination of sensing, computing, and actuation. In this degree program, students learn to engineer the sensing and computing components of intelligent systems. The skills that students will master are essential for the fields of virtual/augmented reality, autonomous robots, self-driving cars, AI virtual assistants, wearable/implantable devices, and more.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with analog and digital circuits at the printed circuit board ( PCB ) level.
  • Demonstrated experience with developing mixed signal PCB solutions for sensor applications, from generating schematics to layout, spin-out, and test & debug.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s or doctoral degree in computer engineering or related field.
  • Familiarity with signal integrity and design for assembly/design for manufacture.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities
  • Hardware Development (75%): Circuit design and prototyping; PCB layout in Altium, Eagle, or similar; delivery of bill of materials and gerber files to fabrication house for PCB manufacturing/population; PCB bring up and verification.
  • Content Development (15%): Creation of instructions and/or assignments related to the hardware for use in the course.
  • Meetings (10%): Contribute to weekly zoom meetings with the development team where progress of hardware development and course preparation are discussed.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
