Overview
- Provides day-to-day operational leadership, strategic management and planning for all departments of Hampstead Hospital (HH), an intensive, acute care inpatient psychiatric hospital for the treatment of complex behavioral and mental health presentations. Position reports to the Chief Executive Officer-HH and is responsible for operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and financial and resource management to ensure the effective, efficient and compliant operations.
Responsibilities
- Provides daily operational leadership including managing and supervising staff, core functions and services, initiatives and activities of the HH. Ensures all operations, business practices, and systems are in compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Leads the development, communication, and implementation of effective business, financial, quality assurance and resource plans; innovative programming; and other growth strategies and processes.
- Approves the development and implementation of methodologies to evaluate the implementation and coordination of objectives and effectiveness of service, standards and processes. Monitors quality initiatives for outcomes; and develops and oversees the implementation of corrective action measures. Provides timely, accurate and data-driven reports to the CEO.
- Motivates and leads a high-performing management team including encouraging collaboration, innovative problem solving and teamwork.
- Mentors subordinate employees, assesses training and professional development needs, and actively ensures staff is afforded the tools, training, and resources to succeed in their positions. Fosters a team/success-oriented and accountable work environment across the HH system.
- Supports and upholds all established hospital and departmental policies including supporting employee training and development; staff workplace safety accountabilities; and a commitment to continuous quality improvement and customer service values.
- Works to ensure the effective, efficient and compliant development, procurement, administration and evaluation of HH contracts.
- Serves as a member of the hospital Executive Team, participating in significant decisions impacting hospital operations and collaborating effectively with senior management to ensure operational effectiveness.
- Serves as the hospital’s Acting Chief Executive Officer during time of absence, including responding to the issues presented by the Executive-on-call during nights and weekends, making administrative decisions for the hospital as needed.
- Serves as the administrative representative to standing and Ad-hoc committees of the hospital including but not limited to the CEO Advisory Committee, Hospital Management Committee, sentinel event and performance improvement reviews, and serves on committees in the CEO absence.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in nursing, social work, business, human resources management or healthcare administration. Additional years of formal education may not be substituted for the work experience required by this job description.
- Ten years of experience in a health care facility, five years of which at a management level with administrative and supervisory experience. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education at the graduate level only.
- PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) is preferred.
