Position Summary
The Facilities team designs, operates and maintains sophisticated electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems within the DartPoints data centers in a 24/7 mission-critical environment across multiple facilities. Facilities Engineers at DartPoints operate, monitor, and support physical facilities conditions. Some of these duties will include climate control, power supply, generators, UPS and flywheel systems, electrical distribution and control, physical security, and monitoring systems. Engineers regularly help inspect, maintain, and repair various data center electrical or mechanical systems, both critical and non-critical. Engineers aid Operations team members, as needed, to provision and de-provision services for internal and external clients.
Engineers ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly. Engineers manage data center performance issues and outages during emergencies or abnormal conditions to minimize failure recovery time.
Primary Responsibilities
- Areas include: Electrical, Mechanical, General Facilities, Building Monitoring and Control
- Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in DartPoints 7 x 24 x 365 data center facilities
- Maintain, repair, and replace as-needed building systems (HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and lighting)
- Maintain, repair, and upkeep building interior and exterior based on location needs (office space, common space, lighting, landscape, parking lot, etc.)
- Documenting, tracking, and trending operational characteristics
- Coordinate, communicate, and schedule general trades and specialty contractors to perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities
- Installation of electrical branch feeders and branch circuits per NEC standards
- Installation of network infrastructure cabling, fiber optics, and Category 6
- Travel Occasional Day Travel; Infrequent Overnight Travel
Qualifications
- Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other verifiable training in a relevant technical field or equivalent practical experience
- 5 years in mechanical/HVAC, electrical at journeyman or technician level (minimum of 2 years of experience in a critical environment/5 years in a critical environment is preferred)
- Professional Licensing in Mechanical or Electrical
- Mechanical aptitude to perform equipment troubleshooting and repair/ rebuild
- Respond in a timely manner to requests for services and changes per company policy and procedure
- Ability to lift and move 50 lbs. of equipment, work on platforms, ladders, and under raised floors
Preferred qualifications
- Excellent understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment, including: Branch Feeders, Transformers, Generators, Switchgear, UPS systems, PDU units, HVAC AHU, CRAC and CRAH units, Fire Alarm systems, Clean-agent fire suppression systems, Pre-Action fire suppression systems
- Ability to communicate intelligently and effectively with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on these systems
- Ability to learn quickly and address issues as they arise during normal working hours or when on-call
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
This position may require shift work that includes weekends and holidays
