What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Engineer position at JTEKT North America?
Under the general direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Facilities Engineer ensures consistent operations of the facilities and building systems. Applies principles, practices, and techniques to assist facilities maintenance staff in supporting building systems. Evaluates methods, materials and equipment utilized in building systems to determine optimal performance, efficient energy usage and life cycle costing. Responsible for supervising facility maintenance technicians and/or other facilities staff. Other duties include, project management related to facilities operations, building automation system solution implementations.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
Oversee maintenance of building and grounds, building infrastructure systems, instrumentation, and system management systems.
Coordinates preventative maintenance, testing, and repair of all building, mechanical and electrical equipment as necessary Oversees routine predictive and corrective maintenance activity on facility and building systems.
Identifies problems with building systems, communicates, schedules, and completes repairs.
Maintain maintenance database/logs to track critical components and subsequent activities.
Maintain/recommend inventory regarding facility and building system maintenance spare components.
Completes daily operations reports and time reports as assigned.
Creates and maintains records and/or inventory for work orders, inspection forms, building equipment, preventative maintenance, and utility/energy usage.
Supports cross function initiatives in developing skills, applying technical knowledge, assisting with projects, trains co-workers in specialized skills.
Provides technical guidance and develops specifications for supplies, parts and equipment and services.
Inspects facilities to plan maintenance activities and to ensure compliance with building codes, and other safety standards.
Provides direction to personnel such as contractors, consultants, engineers, etc.
Assists the Maintenance Manager in overseeing all facilities related contracts.
Provides commissioning and inspection coordination before new construction projects are turned over to production.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Day to day supervision of the facilities maintenance technicians.
Assist with interviewing, hiring, training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work.
Ensure all Contracts, PM’s, Safety Work Orders are up to date and/or completed on time.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of energy management systems, building automation systems and instrumentation.
Knowledge of industrial HVAC, chilled water systems, compressed air systems, central coolant systems, electrical systems, structural systems.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to read and interpret engineering and technical drawings, plans and specifications.
Ability to read and understand reference books and complicated system manuals.
Proficiency in the use of computers, Windows-based applications used in general business and Facilities Management activities.
Skill in effective oral and written communications.
Skill in effectively supervising and delegating duties to assigned staff.
Education and Experience:
AFE Certified Plant Engineer preferred.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Must be willing to work overtime hours and weekends as needed.
Must be able to stand on feet for extended periods of time.
Must be able to lift 50lbs.
Must be able to work outdoors and in hot and cold environments.
