Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
- Minimum of two years experience working with children preferred
- Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual and audio presentations.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
- Valid Driver’s License and Insurable by the State of Mississippi

Job Goal
- To insure that eligible students are enrolled in and attending school regularly
- To monitor, report and assist with improvement initiatives to increase student attendance
- To monitor, report, and assist with initiatives to reduce student dropout, truancy and mobility rates
- To monitor, collect, and report compulsory attendance data accurately and timely
- To assist with the secure delivery of Cumulative Folders and Permanent Records within the district
Essential Function
- Maintains a professional knowledge of state law, Board policy, and city and administrative regulations regarding child welfare and school attendance
- Monitor attendance services to insure compliance with MS State Law(s), MDE State Board Policies, JPSD School Board policies, practices, and/or procedures.
- Complete in a timely fashion all records and reports as required by law and regulation and maintain accurate attendance records.
- Collaborate with drop-out prevention coordinator, office of enrollment services, building level administration, and school based attendance personnel.
- Works closely with district and building level personnel regarding students who are frequently absent and who have not responded to corrective efforts made by the building principal.
- Assist staff in collecting, interpreting and using student attendance data to identify students who are at-risk of truancy, recommend appropriate interventions, and recommend strategies to create a welcoming and engaging environment.
- Assists in obtaining maximum average daily attendance per school day by implementing strategies such as making phone calls, home visits, and corresponding to parents of truant students, that will enable the district and/or school to identify, communicate and monitor each student’s attendance per day
- Implements procedures for monitoring and reporting student absences as specified in the Mississippi Compulsory Attendance Law (MS Accreditation Standard 10)
- Works directly with school administrators, parents and students to resolve problems that may prevent school attendance
- Monitor targeted students’ attendance, and intervene when necessary to assure regular attendance.
- Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines.
- Assist district level specialists with coordinating activities to comply with MSIS (Mississippi Student Information System) deadlines
- Ensure proper coding of discipline into the district’s site-based administrative system
- Process no shows and dropouts
- Assist with school, district, and state reports as requested and required
- Performs other related duties as requested or assigned
