POSITION OVERVIEW
The Accounting Specialist is responsible for assisting departmental leadership with all accounting and finance related tasks. They play a large part in daily journal entries, accounts receivable and accounts payable monitoring, and employee financial activities. They will have participation in most finance-related facets of the hotel and ensure compliance and optimized financial results for hotel ownership.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform routine clerical accounting duties within a fast-paced finance department while adhering to hotel standards.
- Serve as a resource for the departmental leadership team.
- Match, batch, and code vendor invoices.
- File and safely maintain financial records.
- Reconcile bank statements with the general ledger.
- Update and maintain all accounting databases and process backups.
- Prepare and interpret financial summaries and provide reports to managers on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
- Participate in month-end closing activities, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliation of accounts, and sales tax computations.
- Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
- Review, verify, and report daily revenue and expense reports.
- Analyze the financial activities of past, present, and expected operations to identify development opportunities and areas where improvement is needed.
- Monitor financial activities and details, such as cash flow and reserve levels, to ensure that all legal, brand, and regulatory requirements are met.
- Conduct or assist with audits of company accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and statutes.
- Assist to prepare and file annual tax returns in coordination with the corporate team and ownership.
- Compute, withhold, and account for all payroll deductions.
- Assist in all aspects of employee insurance, benefits, and casualty programs, including monitoring changes in health insurance regulations and creating budgets for benefits and worker’s compensation.
- Be knowledgeable of contracts and agreements and assist hotel management in maintaining licenses, permits, insurance, and contracts.
- Maintain a professional and personable appearance at all times, according to hotel standards.
- Successfully achieve the hotel’s core competencies including work product, teamwork and culture, guest and customer service, work ethic, impact-oriented problem solver, and entrepreneurship.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, business management or a related education preferred.
- Previous experience in a similar role in a full-service hospitality operation.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, M3 accounting software, Profitsage, Property Management Systems and Point of Sale Systems, Payroll systems, and other finance-related platforms.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including complaint handling and resolution.
- Results oriented and highly motivated self-starter.
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and manage multiple concurrent demands while prioritizing responsibilities.
- Aptitude to perform numerical analysis of data and formulate conclusions and solutions.
- Approachable, authentic, and engaging demeanor, setting an example for all Associates.
- A proven track record in a leadership role with the ability to inspire, motivate, and engage.
- Good reading, writing, and oral proficiency in the English language.
- Flexibility to work a varied schedule, which may include weekends and holidays.
- Requires writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability, and visual acuity.
