DataTecnica (DT) invites applications for this currently open position at the new Center for Alzheimer’s and Related Dementias (CARD) at the National Institutes of Health. We facilitate growth for the research portfolios of numerous global initiatives in neurodegenerative disease space, with a focus on Alzheimer’s and related dementias.
This position would support bioinformatics and imaging efforts focused on integrating large-scale multi-modal data types in various research applications – namely bulk transcriptomics analysis with some spatial-omics and proteomics.
The main responsibilities for this position include collaborating on the development, implementation, execution, and maintenance of common research pipelines as well as helping biology focused collaborators interpret analysis results
- This will also include generating plots, tables and figures plus presenting analysis updates to colleagues regularly. There are also some opportunities to contribute to larger collaborative and creative research projects. For specific details, please see below.
Qualifications :
MS or PhD in bioinformatics, molecular biology, neuroscience or similar field
BS possible with exceptional experience
Understanding of molecular biology including cell components / organelles and omics
Experience with bulk RNA seq and proteomics data
Basic analytics techniques / statistics
Familiarity with statistical conventions and data visualization of such datasets
Interpreting, writing and designing custom analyses for complex data
Familiarity with distributed, parallel HPC and / or cloud computing (NIH Biowulf and google cloud ideal)
Comfortable working with large datasets (simultaneous analysis of omics data for hundreds of samples)
Biology background and interest in or willingness to learn about neurodegenerative disease cell biology
Python and / or R proficiency
Knowledge of sequencing technologies
Able to troubleshoot and think critically
Able to work independently
Ability to work as part of a diverse team of scientists
Strong communication skills to connect both pure biologists and data scientists
Scope of work :
Develop and deploy data processing and QC pipelines at scale
Make visualizations of data outputs for discussion and interpretation
Management and sharing of public datasets
Knowledge transfer to diverse group of teammates
Preferences :
Local or willing to immediately relocate to the Washington DC Metro area
Experience with the National Institutes of Health or similar federal research structure
Ability to be on the NIH campus Tuesday to Thursday
Experience with spatial omics technologies
Experience with a variety of sequencing techniques, including but not limited to long read, ribo-seq, eCLIP, and multiomics integration

This position will include opportunities to grow your bioinformatics and data science skills as well as publish high impact research in collaboration with NIH initiatives we support. As this is an NIH contract opportunity,
a US work permit, citizenship or green card are required
with at least 3 days needed on NIH campus per week
