Our Dave's Market and Eatery Midtown is hiring for general bakery help in our Bakery department as an Apprentice. Below is a full description of the position(s) available:
Summary
Responsible for producing bakery products alongside the Baker to learn the processes of the Bakery, in accordance with Dave’s Supermarkets standards of quality.
Essential Functions / Requirements
Providing quality customer service is an essential component of every position within Daves Supermarket stores. Each position serves its own group of customers, which may consist of consumers, co-workers, vendors and business associates. As much care should be given to handling our internal “customers”, as the ultimate consumer.
- Adhere to all federal, state, local regulations (including health and safety) as they apply to the bakery operation.
- Perform all work duties alongside the Baker to learn each aspect of the Bakery.
- Check the quality of raw materials to ensure that standards and specifications are met.
- Operate mixer, knifes, bread equipment (additional equipment as required).
- Measure or weigh flour or other ingredients to prepare batter, dough, filling, or icing, using scales or graduated containers.
- Adapt the quantity of ingredients to match the amount of items to be baked.
- Roll, knead, cut, or shape dough to form sweet rolls, pie crusts, tarts, cookies or orther products.
- Place dough in pans, molds, or on sheets and bake in production ovens.
- Set oven temperatures based on the items to be baked.
- Observe color of products being baked and adjust oven temperatures and humidity accordingly.
- Apply glazes, icings, or other toppings to baked goods, using spatulas or brushes.
- Create cakes, trays, or pastries according to customer specifications.
- Receive and put away product and supply orders as needed.
- Follow all G.E.T initiatives as directed in the Bakery Department.
- Assist Bakery Manager in executing all corporate bakery merchandising programs and helping to maintain sales floor conditions.
- Maintain a regular cleaning and sanitation program.
- Communicate to Store Management any potential issues that may interfere in the performance of outlined duties.
- Control quality of product to conform to company standards.
- Must dress according to company policy and maintain a neat, clean appearance at all times.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by management.

Experience and Requirements
- High School Diploma (or GED/ High school equivalence Certificate) required.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the individual must be able to remain in a non-stationary position for 90 percent of the time. The individual needs to occasionally move about inside the store and frequently bend to stock finished goods. They are constantly preparing, baking and decorating baked goods by using both mechanical and hand powered utensils. Must be able to continuously reach and grasp to prepare dough and finished bakery products. The individual must be able to detect the coloring of products as throughout the production process. Must be able to exchange accurate information when servicing customers. Occasionally must be able to distinguish sweet and bitter flavors when creating desserts for Dave’s customers. The individual must frequently lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 60 pounds.
Work Environment
The individual that is performing this job may be exposed to heat of ovens. They will also be exposed to temperatures as low as 0 degrees when working in the cooler and freezer for an extended period of time, as needed.
