BASIC FUNCTION: Prepare comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for materials, labor, and associated scope required for projects of varying complexity based on client specifications and in support of the Sales and Operations, requiring minimal oversight and supervision.
What we are looking for:
- Evaluate bid instructions and requirements with specifications for projects selected to bid
- Support the Lead Estimator in the set-up of the estimate, estimate schedule, and responsibility matrix
- Work with sales team to determine extent of required bid scope, format and strategy to effectively estimate and sell the project
- Read and interpret drawings and project specifications
- Perform organized material take-off of all materials supplied under scope of work by Dave Steel Company
- Utilize Building Information Models (BIM) for quantity take-off and visualization where possible to support preparation of a complete estimate
- Evaluate and determine labor requirements of materials fabricated
- Incorporate all addendums, RFI and any other project updates during the course of estimate
- Identify risks/opportunities associated with contract/project documents, project-specific requirements
- Make recommendations for appropriate suppliers and subcontractors to assist with most competitive pricing
- Request quotations from appropriate suppliers for items not fabricated or services not provided by Dave Steel Company, maintaining communication with suppliers.
- Identify scope gaps and overlaps between DSCO furnished items and suppliers, coordinating with others
- Build relationships with material suppliers, erection & misc. metal subcontractors to achieve best price
- Evaluate supplier quotations for conformance to the bid documents
- Organize and present complete direct costs to execute the project in DSCO standard pricing summary
- Organize all takeoffs and costs consistent with customer requested pricing format outlined in bid documents or as agreed

- Develop proposals in conjunction with the salesperson per DSCO standards and bid requirements
- Participate in internal estimate review meetings
- Effectively interface with Project Managers, Purchasing, Detail Coordinators and all of Operations
- Participate in project turnovers to Operations following successful award of a project to convey all knowledge associated with the scope and pricing of the project
- Prepare estimates and supporting backup information to support proposed change order work required by project managers and Operations
- Communicate status of work as relating to specific deadlines and scope of work with Estimating Manager and sales team
- Make recommendations for pricing database changes
- Make recommendations for software upgrades and changes / assist with development of estimating procedures
- Special project management, project tasks and sales as required QUALIFICATIONS:
- Working knowledge of architectural and structural plans for the construction industry
- Experience in estimating construction materials
- Knowledge of estimating in structural steel and associated building components
- Good math skills
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Detail oriented
- Ability to excel under pressure to meet project deadlines
- Must be a self-starter and a team player with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Technical Degree preferred TRAINING TO BE PROVIDED BY DSCO
