Regional Lead Special Education Specialist (Behavior)

Duties & Responsibilities:

Minimum Salary: $94,718, dependent upon years of experience 
 
  • Program Oversight: 
    • Provide leadership and regional oversight under the direction of the Special Education Director for the development, implementation, and evaluation of special education programs in alignment with state and federal regulations. 
    • Collaborate with school administrators and teachers to ensure effective delivery of services to students with special needs. 
  • Compliance: 
    • Ensure compliance with all state and federal special education laws, regulations, and guidelines. 
    • Facilitate problem solving discussions with IEP teams to ensure team consensus on issues regarding FAPE. 
  • IEP Coordination: 
    • Provide ongoing support and guidance on the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for students with disabilities.  
    • Coach special education teachers in creating meaningful and measurable goals for students to ensure that IEP goals are effectively addressed in the classroom. 
    • Collaborate with IEP Teams to address behavioral concerns and promote a positive and inclusive school culture. 
  • Professional Development 
    • Plan, develop, and facilitate training materials to provide leaders, teachers, and staff with meaningful learning opportunities on topics related to healthy and safe learning environments, special education, inclusion, and effective teaching strategies for students with diverse learning needs: 
    • Stay abreast of current trends, research, and best practices in special education to inform professional development initiatives. 
    • Coordinate and facilitate CPI trainings for DCSD 
  • Collaboration: 
    • Foster positive and collaborative relationships with parents, teachers, support staff, and community stakeholders. 
    • Facilitate IEP meetings to ensure equity of voice and solution focused conversations to address student needs. 
    • Collaborate with general education leadership to promote inclusive practices and a supportive learning environment for all students. 
    • Provide consultation to teachers on differentiated instruction, accommodations, and behavior management strategies. 
    • Collaborate with others on the utilization of the Continuous Improvement Model to strategically gather data, analyze, set priorities, implement improvement, and be held accountable for the results. 
    • Serve as a teammate on District Implementation Teams 
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: 
    • Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to special education services and student outcomes. 
    • Prepare and present reports to administrators, school board members, and other stakeholders as needed. 
  • Performs related work as required 
  • Other Duties as Assigned 
  • Endorsement Required:  
    • Iowa Teaching License 
 
Special Qualification Desired:  
(Personal Qualities, Education, Skills Needed, Experience, Etc.) 
  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field. 
  • Iowa state certification in Special Education or related area. 
  • Extensive experience in special education, including program development and implementation specifically for students with intellectual disabilities and/ or behavior disabilities  
  • Proven experience in working with students with varied learning needs. 
  • In-depth knowledge of Iowa state special education laws, regulations, compliance requirements, and best practices for diagnosing, designing, and delivery SDI for students with social, emotional, behavioral disabilities.  
  • Leadership experience preferred 
  • SEBH MTSS experience 
  • Student centered problem solver 
  • Successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with students and their families. 
  • Good attendance and punctuality  
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills both verbally and in writing. 
  • Must be willing to support and implement Davenport’s multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics. 
  • Must be willing to be trained in other district designated priority areas.

Physical Requirements of Position:  
  • Sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.? 
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs. such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture. 
  • Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather. 
  • Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff. 
  • Must be able to implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting.
