What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Foreman position at David H Martin Excavating Inc?
The DHM Utility/Pipe Foreman is a working foreman and supervises a crew of heavy equipment operators, pipe layers and laborers in site preparation, installation of pipe, underground utilities, waterline, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and other miscellaneous materials. The Utility/Pipe Foreman provides support to the Job Superintendent, in addition to directing the crew with guidance and assistance to the other excavation and heavy equipment operators. The Foreman must also be capable of manual labor and experienced in and capable of operating heavy equipment associated with the excavation/construction industry. CDL is preferred, but is not required. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise a work crew of up to 6 employees including Lead Person, Heavy Equipment Operators, Pipe Layers, and prioritize the workload
- Enforce all DHM company, job site, and client-required safety policies and procedures
- Able to work with and/or oversee assigned job site subcontractors as needed
- Read, identify, and understand blueprints related to all above and below ground utilities and excavations, and ensure that blueprints are up to date, and be able to read grade stakes
- Ensure that all materials and tools necessary for the job are on site and available for safe use and that workers are properly trained on usage
- Performance of all duties in accordance with appropriate safety and security standards
- Follow proper procedures before allowing digging to be done and that the excavation site is properly shored and slopes
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record
- High school diploma or equivalent is required
- 3 - 5 years of experience as a Utility/Pipe Foreman is required
