General Statement of Duties
Performs routine technical accounting support duties.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class is responsible for accounting support duties such as data entry, check disbursement and accounts payable. Work generally requires the employee to input data into the computer system and update cash receipt postings, journal entries and budget amendments into the financial software system. Sound judgment, confidentiality, attention to detail, and public contact skills are required to perform tasks. Work is performed under immediate supervision of the Assistant Finance Director.
Illustrative Examples of Work
- Inputs pay vouchers into computer for payment.
- Prints checks, stamps checks with signature, assists with check processing, stuffs checks and mails, scans carbon copy of printed checks and back up into Laserfiche.
- Stamp pay vouchers with check information and documents unpaid sales tax for remittance to the State.
- Counts all monies brought into Finance by each department and writes receipts for monies received; enters amounts and receipt numbers into the appropriate cash receipt book.
- Updates cash receipt postings, journal entries and budget amendments.
- Receives, processes and/or distributes incoming mail.
- Responsible for closing out the month in the computer system and prints/distributes monthly reports.
- Voids and re-issues checks as needed.
- Types out manual checks as needed.
- Prepares new notebooks, binders and files for each fiscal year.
- Maintains office filing system.
- Adheres to the department’s safety rules and regulations.
- Performs other related duties as required.

- Ability to post accounts and to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy.

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational support functions of stooping, crouching, reaching, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures; perform accounting; operate a computer terminal and perform extensive reading.
Education and Experience
- Graduation from high school and some basic accounting, data entry, bookkeeping or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
