This full-time faculty position is a twelve-month position, requiring a presence on campus with the faculty member’s primary efforts focused on teaching and learning, academic excellence and student success. Primary responsibilities include designing and implementing learning strategies for students in the Dental Assisting Program. This position reports directly to the Dean, Health Sciences. The Faculty/Program Director is responsible for program effectiveness, including outcomes, organization, administration, continuous review, planning and development. The director has a role in the budget development process of the program. Davidson Davie Community College faculty members have the following responsibilities including, but not limited to:
- Promote the college's mission, vision and values
- Teach assigned courses at various locations to meet program needs, including, but not limited to day, evening, weekend, and online
- Ensure that each class session contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains currency
- Evaluate student progress and provide appropriate, timely feedback
- Provide and/or facilitate quality experiences in the learning environment(s) to meet program needs
- Develop course syllabi and provide appropriate written information to students concerning course evaluation and criteria
- Incorporate appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning
- Assist in the development and evaluation of courses and programs
- Prepare, maintain, and submit instructional records, reports and grades established by institutional policy.
- Managing the Dental Assisting Program and administrative duties
- Participate in professional development to enhance instructional and technical skills
- Attend appropriate internal and external meetings
- Assist in student recruitment and retention
- Maintain accessibility to students, faculty and staff
- Maintain a high level of sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Perform other tasks as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the College.
Successful candidates will possess:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in a closely related field
- Teaching experience
- Must have background in and current knowledge of dental assisting in topics such as infection/hazard control, radiography, dental materials, preventive dentistry, and clinical procedures
- Credentialed Dental Assistant by a credentialing organization accredited by the Dental Assisting National Board OR dentist licensed to practice in NC with occupational experience in the application of fourhanded dentistry principles, either as a dental assistant or working with chairside assistant
- Current Healthcare Provider level CPR certification or willingness to obtain the certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Community College teaching experience in a Dental Assisting program
- Experience using a Learning Management System, such as Moodle, to deliver course content
- A minimum of three years of full-time or equivalent experience as a clinical chairside Dental Assistant
