The Safety Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors at Davidson Davie-Community College. This position involves patrolling the campus, monitoring security systems, responding to emergencies, and enforcing campus policies. The Safety Officer ensures the protection of property and individuals while promoting a positive and safe learning atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patrol Duties:
- Conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols of the campus to deter and detect criminal activity.
- Monitor and secure campus buildings, facilities, and grounds.
- Check doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are properly secured.
- Incident Response:
- Respond promptly to alarms, calls for assistance, and emergency situations.
- Provide assistance to individuals in need, including medical emergencies.
- Document and report incidents, accidents, and suspicious activities accurately and promptly.
- Surveillance and Monitoring:
- Monitor security cameras and alarm systems.
- Perform periodic checks of security systems and report malfunctions.
- Conduct surveillance of areas prone to theft, vandalism, or other security breaches.
- Policy Enforcement:
- Enforce campus policies, rules, and regulations.
- Control access to restricted areas and verify identification as necessary.
- Assist in crowd control during special events and emergencies.
- Community Interaction:
- Foster positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Provide directions and general information about campus facilities and services.
- Conduct safety and security presentations or training sessions for the campus community.
- Reporting:
- Prepare detailed written reports on security incidents and activities.
- Maintain logs of patrols, incidents, and other security-related activities.
- Assist in the preparation of security assessments and evaluations.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree or coursework in criminal justice or related field preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or military service preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Must have a valid North Carolina Driver’s license.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
- Must obtain state-required security certifications and licenses in Unarmed or Armed Security.
- Must be able to complete approved firearms course yearly.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Strong observational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
- Knowledge of security protocols and emergency response procedures.
- Proficiency with security equipment and technology, such as surveillance cameras and alarm systems.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk or stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to respond quickly to emergencies, which may require running, climbing stairs, or other physical activities.
Work Environment:
- This position requires working in various weather conditions.
- May require working evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team
