Job Overview:
Davis Water Service, Inc. is seeking a dynamic and experienced Human Resources Specialist who also possesses practical knowledge of DOT/CDL Drivers and multi-state operations. This hybrid role will require you to manage a variety of HR responsibilities while also offering expertise in the transportation industry, ensuring that compliance, employee engagement, recruitment, and other HR functions align with the unique demands of multi-state truck driving and emergency response operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruitment & Staffing:
- Manage the recruitment and hiring process for the organization across multiple states
- Work closely with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and develop job descriptions for dispatchers, drivers, mechanics, sales reps, quality analysts, and other personnel
- Screen resumes, conduct interviews, and ensure effective onboarding processes for new employees
- Employee Relations:
- Foster a positive work environment by addressing employee concerns, conflicts, and grievances in a professional and timely manner
- Advise employees on HR policies, procedures, benefits, and compensation
- Compliance & Regulatory Affairs:
- Work with Director of Safety and OSHA/DOT Consultants to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations specific to the trucking industry (e.g., FMCSA regulations, DOT requirements, hours-of-service laws)
- Assist in maintaining driver qualification files and ensure all certifications, licenses, and DOT requirements are up-to-date
- Stay informed of changing laws and regulations in different states and assist in navigating the complexities of multi-state operations
- Training & Development:
- Develop and implement training programs for new hires, ensuring they understand safety protocols, company policies, and compliance requirements
- Conduct refresher training for existing employees, particularly focusing on regulations for CDL drivers and multi-state operations
- Performance Management & Employee Development:
- Conduct performance reviews and assist in the development of employee growth plans, particularly for drivers and other field staff
- Support the implementation of incentive programs to encourage high performance, safety, and job satisfaction
- Payroll & Benefits Administration:
- Assist with payroll processing, ensuring timely and accurate pay for employees
- Help manage benefits enrollment and maintain benefits records for employees
- Safety and Accident Reporting:
- Collaborate with Director of Safety to ensure that employees are following all safety protocols
- Participate in accident investigations, ensure compliance with federal and state safety regulations, and assist in managing Workers' Compensation claims
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience working in human resources, with a strong background in the transportation or logistics industry
- Proven experience with strong knowledge of trucking regulations and multi-state operations
- Familiarity with HRIS (Human Resource Information Systems) and payroll software
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local labor laws, particularly as they relate to the trucking industry
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical abilities
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred)
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification (preferred)
- Certifications & Licenses:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Any relevant HR certifications (e.g., SHRM, PHR) are a plus
Physical Demands:
- Ability to travel as needed to visit drivers or field sites across multiple states
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds and the ability to sit for extended periods
