Duties
- Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear based on their needs and preferences.
- Conduct fittings for eyeglasses and contact lenses, ensuring proper alignment and comfort.
- Maintain knowledge of current optical products and trends to provide informed recommendations.
- Perform basic vision tests and record vital signs as needed.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations while handling patient information.
- Collaborate with ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals to support patient care.
- Manage inventory of optical products, including ordering and restocking supplies.
- Provide education to patients regarding lens options, care instructions, and proper usage.
- Utilize medical terminology effectively when communicating with patients and healthcare providers.
- Support retail sales efforts by promoting products and services within the optical department.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of physiology related to vision and ocular health.
- Experience in retail sales or customer service is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical coding practices is a plus.
- Understanding of ophthalmology principles and practices is beneficial.
- Proficiency in optical equipment operation and maintenance.
- Ability to accurately interpret prescriptions and provide appropriate lens options.
- Knowledge of vital signs monitoring is an asset.
