Dawn to Dusk Cafe is looking for a Sous Chef to join its dynamic team. We pride ourselves on serving up classic diner fare with a touch of innovation - our menu celebrates beloved traditional dishes while embracing new culinary trends. We are a cornerstone of the Rowan University community and are located onthe dynamic Rowan Blvd in the heart of downtown Rowan campus and are known for our friendly atmosphere and delicious food. We are undergoing some exciting new changes and need experienced and dynamic staff in the Kitchen. We are located in Glassboro NJ and are open from 8AM to 9PM.
Position Overview:
The Sous Chef will support the Executive Chef in all aspects of kitchen operations. This role involves assisting in menu development, managing kitchen staff, ensuring food quality and safety, and maintaining smooth day-to-day operations. Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in Menu Execution: Help in the preparation and execution of menu items, ensuring dishes are served to the highest quality and consistency.
- Supervise Kitchen Staff: Assist in training, managing, and motivating kitchen staff, including line cooks and prep cooks. Provide guidance and support to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
- Food Preparation: Oversee food preparation and cooking processes. Ensure proper portion control and presentation of all dishes.
- Inventory Management: Assist in managing kitchen inventory and supplies. Monitor stock levels and place orders as needed to ensure kitchen efficiency.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure adherence to health, safety, and sanitation standards. Conduct regular checks to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
- Quality Control: Inspect dishes before they leave the kitchen to ensure they meet quality standards. Address any issues related to food quality promptly.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Executive Chef to develop and implement new menu items and specials. Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure a cohesive and efficient operation.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a kitchen environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role. Experience in a diner or similar establishment is preferred.
- Education: Culinary degree or equivalent experience is desirable.
- Skills: Strong culinary skills with a solid understanding of classic diner cuisine. Excellent leadership and organizational abilities. Capable of multitasking and working effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Certifications: Food safety certification or other relevant culinary certifications are a plus.
