- Evaluates psychiatric patients in the Emergency Department under the supervision of a psychiatrist.
- Serves as liaison with other service providers or community supports for the continuous improvement of services to patients.
- Maintains patient charts appropriately, including documentation of evaluations, interventions, and treatment recommendations.
- Assists patients and families in dealing with: acute psychiatric symptoms, assessing needed clinical interventions, encouraging use of and compliance with medication.
- Demonstrates ability to provide supportive and directive counseling to patients experiencing behavioral health problems, including those in acute distress.
- Meets in-service, continuing education and supervision requirements for the Behavioral Health Services Department.
- Master’s degree (MSW, MS, MA) or doctorate (Ph.D., Psy.D.) in Psychology or a related field required.
- Licensure in the state of Connecticut as either: Professional Counselor (LPC), Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Psychologist, or Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) strongly preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience in a psychiatric setting preferred.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training.
- Meets physical and mental demands of position.
- Demonstrates good communication skills and ability to maintain positive relationships with physicians, patients, families, and other hospital personnel.
- Demonstrates strong organizational abilities.
- Superior verbal skills.
- Good interviewing skills and knowledge of DSM-IV (TR) and psychopathology.
- Knowledge of community resources, including ability to collaborate with community treatment providers and to access appropriate services for patients being discharged or transferred from the Emergency Department.
