Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Peer Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have lived experience in recovery from mental health or substance use challenges and will utilize this experience to support others on their journey to wellness. This role involves providing guidance, encouragement, and support to individuals navigating behavioral health issues, fostering a sense of hope and empowerment. The successful individual will meet with clients in both the office and community setting. Some opportunity for telehealth appointments with supervisor approval.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one peer support to individuals facing mental health or substance use challenges.
- Utilize personal recovery experiences to mentor and inspire others in their recovery journeys.
- Assist clients in developing coping strategies and life skills necessary for managing their conditions.
- Facilitate group sessions focusing on topics such as crisis intervention, motivational interviewing, and crisis management.
- Collaborate with behavioral health professionals to create individualized support plans for clients.
- Advocate for clients within various systems, ensuring they have access to necessary resources and services.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions and progress in accordance with agency policies and licensing regulations.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills in addiction counseling, mental health counseling, and social work.
Qualifications
- Certification as a Peer Specialist is required. (will send to training)
- Recovery Coach (will send for necessary training)
- Strong understanding of crisis intervention techniques and crisis management strategies.
- Excellent mentoring skills with the ability to inspire hope and resilience in others.
- Familiarity with motivational interviewing techniques is a plus.
- Knowledge of social work principles, resources and systems relevant to mental health care is beneficial.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to connect with diverse populations.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
Must have reliable transportation to get to and from work.
