What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Support Specialist position at Portland Recovery Community Center?
Position Summary:
The Peer Support Specialist is a person in recovery who assists in establishing a safe and welcoming environment at PRCC for all visitors and members. The Peer Support Specialist provides mentoring and guidance to members. They are responsible for contributing to the excellence of operations and atmosphere at the center, assisting guests, providing a staff presence, welcoming new visitors, and providing tours.
FLSA Classification: Hourly
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Extends peer support to members and visitors by listening and sharing recovery experience
- Helps guide participants to available supports, including meetings, activities, recovery coaching, and telephone recovery support
- Connects people with community resources as needed
- Helps set up rooms for meetings and assures that participants have what they need
- Contributes to welcoming environment, greeting, making coffee, cleaning, and stocking supplies
- Opens and closes building in accordance with procedures (for example, lights, music, white board, alarm system)
Reports to: Center Manager
Supervises: None
Professional Qualifications:
- Personal experience in recovery
- Familiarity with recovery community center model
- Registered peer recovery coach preferred
- Responsible and reliable with flexibility to meet changing needs
- Strong communication skills and passion for recovery
- Excellent personal and professional boundaries
Work Schedule:
This part-time position and schedule depend on agency needs.
