Salary Range: $13.00 - $15.00 Hourly
The Collections Department at Dayton History is seeking a Collections Cataloger to work directly with the Collections Manager and Curator. The Cataloger is responsible for creating original cataloging and updating previously entered catalog records of Dayton History’s historic object and archival collections.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Creates original cataloging and updates existing catalog records, which may include condition reporting and photo documenting artifacts.
- Assists in the maintenance and operation of the Museum’s collection management system, including spot-check and full inventories of the various collections.
- Independently prepares written reports, evaluations, and status reports with regards to the collection in general and/or specific artifacts. Will also generate reports from the computerized collections database (Past Perfect).
- Some artifact care, maintenance and re-housing, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Master's degree in museum science, a graduate certificate in museum collections management, or other relevant graduate coursework is strongly preferred.
- Minimum one-year experience as a cataloger working/volunteering in a cultural institution, library, archive, or museum (an internship can provide this experience).
- Demonstrated experience in handling objects and archival materials.
- Knowledge of digital files and digital asset management, preferred.
- Familiarity or experience with Past Perfect collections database software is a plus.
