Overview
The Curriculum Specialist is responsible for developing curriculum programs for the Dayton Society of Natural History, including the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery and SunWatch Indian Village/Archaeological Park. Researching and analyzing education trends, designing custom K-12 curriculum packages, and presenting DSNH curriculum to school administrators are among the key functions of this position. Successful candidates will possess a desire to work in a fast-paced environment, a willingness to take on new challenges, and a passion for education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Research and analyze current trends in specialized STEM education programs, including content and implementation of new technologies in the classroom
- Work closely with education staff and Director of Education to develop exceptional curriculum programs
- Deliver effective curriculum sales presentations to a range of audiences
- Visit in person, or virtually, with school administrators and educators to evaluate needs and to promote DSNH curriculum packages
- Design curricula for K-12 students in accordance with the Ohio Department of Education accreditation guidelines
- Demonstrate a consistent ability to meet deadlines and operate within departmental budget
- Observe and make recommendations to education staff and perform trainings as necessary to continually improve the quality and effectiveness of programs
- Prepare and submit appropriate contracts for DSNH curriculum sales; maintain organized client records and documentation
- Work with the CEO and senior administration to determine short-term and long-term curriculum goals for the DSNH
- Contribute to grant writing committee as necessary to ensure funding for continued improvement and expansion of educational programming
- Serve as the contact for school teachers and administration regarding details of DSNH curriculum packages, including content, cost, and implementation processes
- Uphold the mission, vision and philosophy of the Dayton Society of Natural History

Required Education and Experience
1. Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in education, curriculum and instruction, or related field
2. Three to five years of curriculum development experience*
- Middle/high school teaching experience is not required, but is helpful

- A strong commitment to expanding the reach of DSNH curricula
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to deliver dynamic presentations
- Familiarity with Ohio Department of Education guidelines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Competency in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability to effectively manage time and demonstrate initiative
- Possess personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to organization mission
