Job Description:
As a Civil Construction Estimating Assistant, you will be an integral part of our estimating team, helping to prepare accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for our civil construction projects. You will work closely with senior estimators to gather project details, perform quantity takeoffs, and ensure all relevant data is captured for successful project bids. This position requires a strong understanding of construction processes, cost estimation, and attention to detail.
Responsibilities:
- Quantity Takeoff: Accurately measure and calculate quantities of materials and resources required for civil construction projects using drawings, blueprints, and digital takeoff tools.
- Cost Estimation: Assist in estimating material, labor, and equipment costs based on project specifications and historical data.
- Data Management: Maintain and organize project cost databases, including labor rates, material costs, and subcontractor quotes.
- Bid Preparation: Support the preparation of detailed bids and proposals for clients, ensuring that all costs are accounted for.
- Collaborate with Teams: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and the procurement team to gather necessary project information and ensure accuracy in estimates.
- Research and Market Trends: Stay up-to-date with industry standards, labor rates, and material costs to provide accurate and competitive estimates.
- Documentation: Create and maintain reports, estimates, and other documentation required for project bidding and cost tracking. Creation of project books, tracking bids, and organizing general flow of estimating department.
Requirements:
- Experience: At least 1-2 years of experience in civil construction estimating or in a similar role. Fresh graduates with relevant academic training will also be considered.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., Heavy Bid, Bluebeam, Sage Estimating).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Knowledge of civil construction materials, methods, and processes.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail with an ability to work with complex data and drawings.
- Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with team members and preparing clear, professional reports.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with digital takeoff tools or software.
- Basic understanding of construction contracts and terms.
- Knowledge of local construction codes and regulations.
