DBG - Detroit (The Downtown Boxing Gym) is a leading youth development organization that works in the out-of-school-time space. DBG’s transformative mentorship, individualized academic plans, and measured impact are setting the standard. We are working hard to change broken systems and provide a brighter future. We have maintained a 100% high school graduation rate since our inception nearly two decades ago.
The Brand Manager will lead the strategic development and execution of DBG's communications and messaging platform to amplify our proven transformation model. This role will be crucial in articulating DBG's unique approach, which has successfully helped thousands of Detroit youth overcome societal barriers through our comprehensive out-of-school time program. The role reports directly to the Chief Advancement Officer.
This role will be instrumental in increasing DBG's visibility and educating the national consciousness about our proven methodology, ultimately supporting our growth and impact in transforming young lives through our comprehensive approach.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Strategic Communications Leadership
• Develop and execute a comprehensive brand strategy and communications platform that effectively communicates DBG's proven methodology and impact
• Create compelling narratives that showcase our transformation stories while maintaining our measured authority and evidence-based approach
• Lead the development of marketing materials that effectively communicate DBG's vision and value proposition
2. Brand Development & Management
• Oversee the creation and maintenance of brand guidelines that reflect DBG's core values and mission
• Ensure consistency across all communications channels while balancing professional expertise with authentic human connection
• Support the development of new branded materials for expansion initiatives, including potential franchise operations
3. Content Strategy & Creation
• Direct the development of content that demonstrates our impact through specific examples and real outcomes
• Create strategic messaging that emphasizes DBG's comprehensive approach, proven methodology and distinctive differentiators.
• Develop marketing materials that effectively reach high-impact stakeholders and potential partners
• Manage the social media platforms (posting, uploading, engagement and reputation management)
4. Stakeholder Communications
• Craft targeted communications for diverse audiences, including donors, community partners, and potential franchisees
• Create compelling content that showcases DBG's community-building and authentic relationship approach
QUALIFICATIONS
• 7 years of experience in brand management and strategic communications
• Proven track record of developing and implementing successful brand strategies
• Excellence in storytelling and content development
• Strong understanding of youth development, education and racial equity sectors
• Experience in managing communications for expanding organizations
REQUIRED SKILLS
• Strategic thinking and project management capabilities
• Exceptional writing and editing abilities with attention to brand voice and tone
• Strong digital content creation (short-form video and photography)
• Strong leadership and team collaboration skills
• Understanding of digital marketing and communications platforms
